Visit 1, Valley Meeting

Sandy and I worship with the Pottstown Friends Worship Group, meeting at Fellowship Farm in Sanatoga. Our worship group meets the second and fourth Sunday of each month.  We have decided to visit other Monthly Meetings on the First days when we do not meet and to invite members of our Worship Group to join us.

Our First visit was to Valley Friends Meeting in King of Prussia.  http://www.valleymeeting.org/

Today was a crisp beautiful autumn day.  Leaves in full color and a bright sun.  Meeting was scheduled for 10 AM and when we arrived a few minutes early, there were only three cars in the parking lot.

The Meeting is quite beautiful and in wonderful condition.  We were greeted most warmly by Charlie Park who was trying to sweep leaves away from the entrance door.  Many office parks now surround the Meeting House.

We went in to the Meeting room to await worship and were the only ones there for a while.  Children were playing in the First Day Room.  The Meeting room is gorgeous, wooden floors, a beautiful balcony and second floor windows that let in a great deal of light.

Worship began with 3 or 4 present and within half an hour there were about 20.  Only one verbal message was offered, and that by a Friend who had not been to meeting for several years and appreciated the memories of those no longer present. Worship was quiet and peaceful, (but no sense of a gathered meeting was felt, at least by Henry).   Children came into the meeting five or ten minutes before closing.  Hand shakes were most warm and everyone seemed to want to shake our hands.  Two hymns were song after worship (Morning has Broken, and another about the inward light).  Announcements were quite informal and Friendly.  There was to be a presentation after meeting regarding African Americans who are buried in their grave yard.  We decided not to stay.

On our way out the door we chatted with two long time members (neglected to get names) and mentioned that one of our group used to be a member here.  They remembered her and her son.

All in all this is a very friendly small meeting, with attendees of a variety of ages and a repeat visit would be called for some day.

This is our first attempt at such a blog, we expect to get better at it, and if there are things you'd like us to find out or mention, let me know.
